# Workflow Action: Math Operation

The *Math Operation* action will allow you to make calculations based on what is in a particular field and update fields with the output. Follow this article for an overview of the Math Operation action.

1. **Numeric / Monetary Field Types**

* Navigate to the Operations drop-down and select the field that applies (add, divide, multiply, and subtract)

**Please Note:** The Select field and Update Field can be the same or different, but it has to be of the **same field type**

* Next, enter the specific value amount and select “Save Action”

1. **Date Field Type**

* Under Operations click on the select field - Current date
* Add or subtract any days, months, and years to the current date or any date type field that apply
* Once done select the “Save Action” button

**Please Note:** If the output value is negative then it will be replaced with zero

**How does it work?**

1. Select field -> select any Numeric / Monetary / Date field as an Input

* Only Numeric, Monetary, and Date field types are supported.

1. Operations -> select an operation and enter respective values

* The Select field and Update Field have to be of the **same field type.**

1. Update field -> select any field to update it with the output value (field type should be same as "Select Field")

* If the output value is negative then it will be replaced as zero.
